Reflective Essay and best work
Introduction
Ever since I can remember I have always been a shy person. However, this all changed once I entered ACLC. I can remember the first day at ACLC I was super nervous because I thought none of the people that I knew from middle school would be there. I remember being super confused at first about project periods and their purpose, why facilitators were called by their names instead of their last names, why students were called learners, why teachers were called facilitators. With time, I learned that the things that make ACLC different from other schools have their own special meaning. These things, helped me become a better and confident student. At ACLC I built lasting friendships, learned to take ownership of my learning and became and involved member of the community.
Personal Qualities, Work Habits, and Attitudes
The small yet welcoming diverse community at ACLC played an important role in my learning these past four years. The positive attitudes from other students and facilitators I feel were one of the reasons why learning was easier and enjoyable. The constant support and resources from this small community kept me motivated at times were I felt like I wanted to give up. Coming in to school and seeing every student from middle school to high school getting along made me feel part of this community and that I could always be myself without being judged.
Being myself helped me build strong friendships at ACLC. I was able to give my friends the motivational support that they needed during difficult times. I was able to take advantage of the opportunities that other schools might not have. I was able to reach out for help when I needed it without anything stopping me. And most importantly, I learned that I'm capable of reaching any girl that I have as long as I don't give up and I put all my effort in to it.
New Basics
Every single class subject has taught me new and different thongs throughout the years. In English, I learned to write essays properly, I expanded my vocabulary and I learned to make good use of book annotations. These different tools will help me get through college. In Math, I learned to take good notes that will help me in the future math courses, make complex calculations and properly study for exams. In History, I learned about events in the past, view a timeline, and make a good slideshow presentation. I have always loved making art and it is why I took Art almost every year of high school. However, after taking different science classes I discovered that I truly have an interest for biological science. I hope to one day earn my degree in this subject.
Thinking and Reasoning Skills
At ACLC I learned to think outside the box. Here I learned to write down and express my ideas, that it's okay to think different from everyone else. ACLC teaches you to elaborate more on your ideas and never leave them out. I will never forget to use evidence in everything that I write. In all four years that I've been at ACLC I learned that support your ideas is key to everything and int will only make things easier.
Interpersonal Abilities
I have always been a quiet and shy person for most of high school , but it all began to change towards the end of my junior year-- summer of 2018--. Last summer I began a part time job, here I learned a lot and I continue to learn new skills everyday. I became a team member, learned to socialize with people or customers from different backgrounds ,and always have a positive attitude. These skills have not only helped me teach others at work but these skills have also helped me at school. I joined the leadership class senior year, hear I have learned to become a leader and be a good team member to other learners during ccc and outside of ccc. I've learned to communicate better and support my friends. All of this was a big step for me because without it I would probably be the same person I was a year ago.
Technology
For the past four years I've discovered and learned important things about technology. Most of our assignments are online and require the use of internet. Here in ACLC we have the advantage of having chrome books and computers available when we need them. Thanks to this technology I was able to type essays, use spreadsheets, and do presentations with slideshows. Something that I learned and feel that will help me in the future was how to use spreadsheets for math calculations and the basics of coding.
Best Work
Pre-Calculus
One of my best works would have to be the driving project for Pre Calc class. This project involved a challenging topic- finding the area of trapezoids and triangle under the curve. In the beginning, I believed that I wouldn't be able to complete it since I was struggling in that area. Yet I realized that I wouldn't learn anything if I didn't take the initiative and reached out for help. I was able to complete the project before the deadline and shows that I'm capable of finishing things if I try hard.

World History
The focus of the essay was to talk about an issue happening in the world, providing evidence and possible solutions to the problem. This essay was to be completed in APA format and at a minimum of one thousand words. It was a struggle as a somphmore to understand APA format and actually write a 10 page essay, but I'm glad to say that I was happy with the outcome.
